‘Bananas’ Will Tackle Political and Economic Instability with ‘O Lado Bom da Vida’ Director

High profile project

Apple TV+ has secured the development rights to “Bananas,” a drama series starring Oscar Isaac (“Moon Knight”) and Ana de Armas (“007: No Time to Die”). The project is signed by Carolina Paiz, screenwriter known for her work on “Orange is the New Black” and “Narcos”, and will be directed by David O. Russell (“Silver Linings Playbook”), five-time Oscar nominee.

Inspired by the term “banana republics”, used to describe politically and economically unstable countries, especially in Central America, the plot remains secret, but promises to explore relevant issues in the geopolitical landscape.

Connection of the actors with the theme

Oscar Isaac and Ana de Armas, in addition to starring in the project, bring a direct connection to Central America, the central theme of the series. Isaac was born in Guatemala and has established a notable career in Hollywood, with memorable performances in “Moon Knight” and was recently nominated for an Emmy for his performance in “Scenes from a Marriage,” an HBO miniseries. In theaters, we will next see him as Doctor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation (“The Shape of Water”), which will debut at the end of 2025.

Cuban Ana de Armas will make her English-language series debut with “Bananas.” The actress, who played Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde,” will next star in a “John Wick” spinoff, “Ballerina,” which premieres June 6, 2025.

Ana de Armas, who will make her English-language series debut, continues to solidify her career in Hollywood. Her next work is “Ballerina”, derived from the “John Wick” series, releasing on June 6, 2025. Recently, the actress starred in “Eden”, which screened at the Toronto Film Festival.
