Destination Arrakis! It was Denis Villeneuve’s film, Dune – Part Two, that moved the audience from their seats. The blockbuster, which follows the first part released in 2021, averages 4.5 points out of 5 for 17,334 ratings and 1,752 reviews.

But that’s not all: thanks to its rating, Dune – Part Two rose to fifth place among the most rated science fiction films of all time on AlloCiné, after Interstellar – ranked first -, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Inception and Back to the Future.
It’s fair to say that the long-awaited sequel to Dune was generally well received by the French. Overall, the film drew 4,203,382 theatergoers – compared to its predecessor’s 3,165,270. The public responded, as did the specialized press, which praised the film. Still, AlloCiné has a press rating of 4.2 out of 5 from 40 media outlets.

After number 1, the rest of the podium
In the second place we find a radically different film: Poor Creatures by Yorgos Lanthimos. This fable, a cross between fantasy and science fiction, is a retelling of the myth of Frankenstein’s creation through the eyes of Bella, a young woman created by a mad doctor.
For this role, Emma Stone received the second Oscar of her career. Poor Creatures scores an average of 3.9 out of 5 on AlloCiné. Despite the oddity, the film was a huge success in cinemas, especially in France, where it attracted 604,981 viewers – the director’s biggest ever success.
Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom ranks #3 on Wes Ball’s Best Sci-Fi Movies of 2024 on AlloCiné. This sequel takes place hundreds of years after the death of Caesar, the hero of the previous trilogy. The movie gets a rating of 3.6 out of 5. It is one of the biggest theatrical successes of 2024 with 2,487,931 admissions.
In fourth place we find Sean Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The Marvel blockbuster receives the same rating as its predecessor, 3.6 out of 5, with a lower rating. At the box office, the film opened to 3,716,702 theatergoers.
Finally, it’s Alien: Romulus, which takes the fifth place among the best sci-fi movies of 2024, again with the same score: 3.6 out of 5. This new opus was particularly well received by the public and critics. A total of 1,135,196 spectators attended the theaters.
