The actor Ney Latorraca died this Thursday (26 years old), at the age of 80, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The artist had been battling prostate cancer since 2019 and the condition had progressed to pulmonary sepsis. Fascinated by performance art, the director also shared other passions and Santos was among them.
Born in Santos, in 1944, his fascination with Peixe needs no justification and occurred almost naturally. “I was born in front of Vila Belmiro. From the window I could also see the pitch. I always supported Santos,” the artist said in an interview.
Ney maintained, at least as much as he could, a certain closeness with the beach-based Alvinegro. The actor even maintained the habit of leafing through the newspaper before recording to monitor the club’s position in the championship.
“When I’m about to record a soap opera or make a film and I come across a newspaper, the first thing I do is go to the Sports page and see where Santos is in the standings. [do campeonato]”.

Ney Latorraca’s career
Son of artists, Ney Latorraca was born ready for the stage. His first job came at the age of 19, again in Santos, for the role of Pluft, Fantasminha, a play by Maria Clara Machado. Shortly thereafter he decided to invest in his acting career and moved to São Paulo.
The first attempt was not very successful, and Ney returned to Santos to work in a bank and as a salesman, with expertise in women’s clothing and semi-precious stones.
It was only after enrolling at the School of Dramatic Arts that he landed his first television role. Ney Latorraca took his first steps at Tupi, making cameos after cameos, until working at TV Cultura and Record before establishing himself at Globo – from 1975 onwards.
