The actor and the director one of the great icons of Brazilian television, died this Thursday (26 years old), at the age of 80, in the south of Rio de Janeiro. The information was confirmed by the Clínica São Vicente, where he was hospitalized.
Born in Santos, on the southern coast of São Paulo, Ney began his artistic career at the age of 19, when he played Pluft, the little ghost, in a play by Maria Clara Machado. Determined to dedicate himself to art, he moved to São Paulo and consolidated his passion for acting. “”, he declared in an interview with Memória Globo, recalling that his difficult childhood was fuel for his creativity.
The debut on TV Globo and success in soap operas
Ney Latorraca made his soap opera debut in 1968 with “”, from TV Tupi. In 1975 he made his debut in the soap opera Globo, in the soap opera by Lauro Muniz. He played Felipe and quickly gained prominence, signing a contract with the network.
Since then, he has built a solid career, starring in more than 15 soap operas, six miniseries and several series and specials. Check out some of his most memorable roles below:
“Stupid Cupid” (1976)
Ney lived a typical Playboy fan of Elvis Presley and leader of a rock band called Personélitis Bóis. His character, an eternal high school student, enchanted the audience with his charisma and humor.
“Winged Heart” (1980)
In this plot of Janete Clair, Ney starred an unforgettable villain. The manager of an artistic ceramics company starred in the first rape scene in an eight o’clock soap opera, alongside Vera Fischer.
“Vamp” (1991)
One of Ney’s greatest successes was his role as in “Vamp”. In the fictional Armação dos Anjos, he competed for the love of rocker Natasha, played by Claudia Ohana, in a mix of humor and fantasy that captivated the audience.

“The Color of Sin” (2004)
In Ney brought to life Eduardo Campos Sodré, father of the villain Bárbara (Giovanna Antonelli). The character, a decadent former rich man, was known for his love affairs with international stars and for his presence on magazine covers.
“Business in China” (2008)
In Miguel Fallabela’s soap opera, Ney acted a father who abandons his family to live alone in the Amazon for a period, returning to Rio de Janeiro full of stories and regrets.
