Please note that below are plot details for the finale of Squid Game Season 2, which is now available on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it in its entirety yet and don’t want to know anything about its content, I suggest you stop reading this article now.
In just seven episodes, Squid Game Season 2 sees Seong Gi-hoon—the main character of the series—dive back into the horrors of the childhood-inspired games that made him a rich man. His experience as a previous winner, unfortunately, did not allow him to save the lives of other participants, especially due to the introduction of new blood games.
A question that worries many fans
But these 2 seasons also made it possible to answer the question that many fans of the series are asking: why don’t the participants rebel against the soldiers in pink? Due to their sheer numbers – 456 at the start of the first test – it looked easy for the players to outmaneuver the defenders, take their weapons and control the island.
The three years that separate the story of the two seasons allowed Seongi-hoon to master firearms and close combat. Coincidentally, this new release also brings him to an old acquaintance (player number 390), a former soldier in the South Korean army.
A group was quickly formed consisting of these two characters, as well as player number 388 (also ex-soldier, but more zealous than 390) and the mysterious player 001. Squid Game fans immediately knew that the latter was none other than a man. Mask, the famous front man, infiltrated this new part incognito to gain Seong Gi-hoon’s trust.
Player number 001 shows his true colors
After an extremely tight vote on whether to suspend the game, Yes and No supporters found themselves at a standstill. Pending a new vote, the situation pushes representatives of each camp to attack each other, and this tension leads to the death of Thanos (player number 230).
This climate gives Seong Gi-hoon and his group of allies the opportunity to create a rebellion. While the Pink Soldiers arrive at the dormitory to identify the bodies of those killed in the skirmish, the rebel players attack. Soldiers are quickly neutralized and players own their weapons.
The real guerilla warfare then begins in the arena. Players quickly lose their advantage due to lack of location awareness and larger than expected number of soldiers. But the turning point in the battle comes when 001 decides to show his true colors by shooting two rebels in the back.

Season 3 will be released on Netflix earlier than expected!
Therefore, Season 2 ends with a bloodbath, especially as Seong Gi-hoon mourns the death of the 390th player. The rebellion put down by the soldiers proves that nothing can stop the games from running smoothly and that any form of resistance will. Unfortunately it is useless.
Therefore, the only hope lies in the operation carried out off the island by police officer Hwang Joon-ho, at the head of a group of mercenaries. The latter will still have to manage to identify the exact place where these games are held and escape the traps set on his route by the organizers of the Squid Game…
Fans won’t have to wait long for the rest of the series. Season 3, which was recently announced, has actually already been filmed. Broadcast has been confirmed for 2025 on Netflix, with no specific date yet.
The first two seasons of Squid Game are now available exclusively on Netflix.
