Brazil opened 106,625 formal job vacancies in November, according to data from the General Registry of the Employed and Unemployed (Caged), published this Friday by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Last month’s result was the result of 1,978,371 admissions and 1,871,746 layoffs and fell short of economists’ expectations indicated in a Reuters poll of net job creation of 129,500.
November’s balance was the lowest for the month since 2019, when 99,232 vacancies opened, according to the unadjusted data, excluding information provided by companies after the deadline.
In November, two of the five economic activity groups recorded positive vacancy balances. The trade sector leads the way in terms of job offers, with 94,572 positions, followed by services, with 67,717. The balance is negative with 30,091 vacancies in construction, 18,887 in agriculture and 6,678 in industry.
In the month 21 of the 27 units of the Federation recorded a positive balance. Sao Paulo was the state with the highest number of vacancies created, with 38,562 new positions, followed by Rio de Janeiro (+13,810) and Rio Grande do Sul (+11,865).
In the first eleven months of 2024, the country recorded 2,224,102 open vacancies in the adjusted data, the highest level since the same period in 2022, which had recorded 2,469,650 vacancies.
