‘Man, you earn more’ in an episode of Walking Dead!’, said the filmmaker’s agent about the fee

Tim Millerthe director responsible for the first film Deadpoollaunched in 2016, revealed to Collider who wished his film deal included a merchandising portion so he could have made more money from the success of the feature film starring Ryan Reynolds.

The director, who did not work on the sequels Deadpool 2(2018) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), revealed that he earned US$225,000 to direct the film. “I know it seems like a lot of money, but for two years of work, that’s not a lot of money.” The film that launched the anti-hero franchise grossed US$782 million at the box office.

“You may not know, but it’s not really profitable to be a first-time director in Hollywood, and I’ll tell you exactly,” said the filmmaker before revealing the exact amount of the fee. “Not that I’m not grateful,” he added. “I’m f***ing grateful, that’s how it is because you have to be when you’re a first-time director. My agent said, ‘Man, you make more on an episode of “The Walking Dead (2010)!’”

I think a lot of people think everyone is making millions and millions in Hollywood. This is simply not the case, not always. I don’t want to sound like I’m not grateful because I worked, I was 50 when I got the chance to direct Deadpooland I really thought I wouldn’t have the chance to direct a film, even though I’ve wanted to my whole life.

Despite the remuneration he classified as low, Miller declared that he has “nothing but pride” for his work on the Deadpool project. “I feel like every time I walk down the halls on the floor of CCXP and see all these Deadpool dolls, I think they wouldn’t be here if we hadn’t made that film. And I feel exceptionally lucky to be able to be a part of it. So, so my second thought is, I wish my directing deals had a merchandising part so I could make some money off of it all.”
