Round 6: Understanding the end of season 2 and post-credits secrets

“Round 6,” the South Korean series that is Netflix’s biggest hit of all time, finally premiered its second season on the 26th, with all 7 episodes available. The season brought more mysteries, new characters, deadly games and twists, always maintaining the atmosphere of suspense.

The story follows the protagonist and winner of the first season Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), as he attempts to destroy the game that ended his life. To do this, he will have to face new challenges, new threats and even more complex games. Even before its premiere, streaming had already confirmed that the third and final season of the phenomenon will arrive in 2025.

If you’re one of the fans who’s already watched all 7 episodes, check out the explanation of the events at the end of season 2 below, as well as a statement from the creator about the post-credits scene.

The final episode of season two, “Friend or Foe?” (2×07), ends with Jung-bae, Gi-hun’s longtime friend, being killed by Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), right in front of the protagonist. This comes as a form of punishment for Gi-hun for leading the attempted rebellion against the organizers of the games.

The group managed to get close to the control room, but the plan was foiled after a trick by the Front Man himself, who disguised himself as a player since the beginning of the season, as one of the first surprises of the season.

Gi-hun proposes the rebellion immediately after the third round of the games he is participating in, when 100 players remain in total, who are tied in the vote between “stay on the island and continue playing” or “leave and share the prize” .The decision is made until the next morning, which leads to a big fight and some deaths in the men’s room.

Knowing that the players who voted to stay will have to attack their opponents during the night, and that the organizers will step in to intervene after a while, Gi-hun and some allies decide to pretend to be dead to attack the pink soldiers and steal their weapons, starting the rebellion. However, after a series of events and Front Man’s deception, the plan goes awry.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk gave an interview to the magazine Variety explaining his choice to kill Jung-bae in front of his best friend and protagonist. He recalled that, while writing the sequel, he came up with a plot that would take 10 episodes. Therefore, he ended up dividing the story between two seasons, the second and the third. Read the statement in full:

I wanted to have a clear point where I could wrap up season two and then move on to season three. When you look at Gi-hun’s story, every attempt he makes to stop the game: the first, recruiting mercenaries and trying to install a tracking device, fails; the second attempt, to convince people to vote out of the game, also fails; and finally the third attempt also fails, that of uniting the people and provoking a rebellion. All these failures lead to an intense and heavy crisis, culminating in the loss of his best friend, Jung-bae, at the hands of Front Man. Thinking about Gi-hun’s journey, I thought it was the right time to conclude and give him a break. small conclusion within this long narrative arc. And from that point on, in season three, with this huge weight of guilt and sense of failure on him – how will Gi-hun continue his mission? This is the story that will be revealed later.

Round 6: Understanding Season 2 post-credits

If you left streaming right after the last scene of the last episode, it’s worth going back and checking what’s after the credits. In the interview, the creator also talked about the season’s post-credits scene, which gives a clue as to what to expect in the next one, which will arrive on streaming in 2025.

However, Hwang Dong-hyuk did not reveal many details, leaving an atmosphere of mystery. I wait:

“If you saw the hidden scene that appears after the credits of the last episode of the second seasonIf you watch this clip, you’ll get a little clue as to where season 3 might take you. I think that’s all I can say for now.

Now fans can only wait for the third season, while in the meantime speculation about the future of the series tends to grow.
