‘I Really Cried’: Why Netflix’s Next Hit Has Raised Harlan Coben?

If you were already a Netflix subscriber a year ago, then you are surely one of the millions of viewers who have been tuning in to Double Trap since January 1st. This 8-episode action packed thriller was adapted from the novel by the king of crime fiction, Harlan Coben.

A year later, the platform tried the same formula with You, I Miss You (you are misseda novel published two years ago) and the summary of which is here:

Eleven years ago, Detective Kat Donovan’s fiance Josh—the love of her life—disappeared and she hasn’t been heard from since. Today, while looking through profiles on a dating app, Cathy’s world comes crashing down again when she sees his face on one of the accounts.

Josh’s reappearance forces him to delve into the mystery of his father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets in his past.

We take (almost) the same ones and start over

As in the case of Double Trap, Netflix chose England as the location of the action. Forget big American stars, this new production is powered by Rosalind Eleazar (Slow Horses) with appearances by Ashley Walters (Top Boy), Richard Armitage and Jessica Plummer (The Decameron).

If the trailer is to be believed, I Miss You uses the same ingredients as previous adaptations of Harlan Coben’s novels: A heroine in search of answers, discoveries about the past and people around her, and a final twist that risks leaving us speechless.

But if the American author is to be believed, Missing also promises great emotion. During the panel around the seriesCobain revealed:

“To begin with, the series is different from others because there are only 5 episodes, and we were offered 8. So the plot is a bit tighter. And I can say that it was the most emotional ending I have ever experienced. I actually cried when I watched episode 5. It will be our most emotional series yet.”

Every Planet is set for I Miss You to become Netflix’s next big hit, just like Double Trap did last year. And if, on top of that, the audience ends up in tears, then the American giant will definitely have everything.

See you on January 1.
