Everyone knows this star because one of his iconic roles has made him extremely popular in the last ten years.
After being Theseus in Immortals, Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes, but also Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher and of course Superman in Zack Snyder’s DC universe, Henry Cavill is one of the most famous British actors in Hollywood right now.
- Have you ever seen Jean Gabin’s face in his first role? Worth a detour…
First role as an orphan at the age of 18
You may recognize him, this is Henry Cavill. Only a few years earlier, the actor began acting at Stowe University in Great Britain. Being an athlete, he excels in his performance Hamlet the dog by Tom Stoppard, before meeting actor Russell Crowe in 1999, who gave him acting advice while he was filming with Meg Ryan at his university.
Two years later, Cavill landed his first film role in Laguna, playing Thomas Aprea, a young American who is sent to live with his uncle in Italy after his parents are killed by the mafia. There, he is drawn to Thelma, his uncle’s mysterious wife (played by Frenchman Emmanuel Seiner; we also meet Charles Aznour as a gangster).
Coincidentally, this gangster film stars Cavill as a young man traumatized by the murder of his parents, just like the Batman character he will face in Batman v Superman and Justice League.
A mega-star is in the making

At the time of Laguna, Cavill, who would go on to direct the Monte Cristo adaptation, was not yet the ultra-built man hired by Zack Snyder to play the Man of Steel in the superhero film Man of Steel. He struggled for nearly a decade more before landing leading roles in the horror film Blood Creek (2009), an epic. Immortals (2011) and the action film Sans Issue (2012), without the Tudor titles.
His role as Superman in the DC Universe is sure to bring him to the forefront of the Hollywood scene, giving him plenty of blockbuster roles. Fresh from Argylle and the Ministry of Dirty War, Cavill is preparing a new film with Guy Ritchie called In The Grey.
