Santos debuts in Copinha trying to break an 11-year fast

Santos debuts at Copinha against Tirol-CE.

This Friday Santos debuts in the 2025 Sao Paulo Junior Football Cup against Tirol-CE. The fight will take place at 8pm (Brasilia time), at the Arena Fonte Luminosa, in Araraquara (SP).

Meninos da Vila are looking for victory to end their 11-year drought without defeating Copinha. The last title, in 2014, featured goalkeeper João Paulo, left-back Zeca and midfielder Serginho.

In search of the team’s qualification, Santos can exploit the base as usual. The San Paolo Junior Football Cup, then, could be an opportunity for the youngsters to attract the attention of coach Pedro Caixinha.

Os Meninos da Vila also beat Copinha in 1984 and 2013. In 2022, Peixe also reached the final, but were beaten by Palmeiras 4-0, at Allianz Parque.

After their debut, Santos will face Ferroviária and Jaciobá-AL as rivals in Group 7. The top two from each group advance to the knockout stage.
