They are so beautiful that we even forget the final destination […]
There are some roads that, more than just transport routes, are an attraction in themselves.
This time, the Travel by fare lists some of the scenic roads in Brazil, the ones that we even forget to get to the final destination.
There is one in the interior of São Paulo that reaches the coast, there is also one in the Pantanal, another with a view of the sea and even one that gives access to a world of waterfalls, in the middle of the Amazon .
Scenic roads in Brazil
Royal Road
MG, RJ, SP
Since 2023 this historic road has been a national monument.
The Estrada Real is more than 1,630 km long, along ancient paths where men passed in the 17th century in search of gold and diamonds.
It is currently divided into four routes (Caminho Velho, Caminho dos Diamantes, Caminho do Sabarabuçu and Caminho Novo) and is distinguished by tourist destinations such as the Historic Cities of Minas Gerai (Diamantina, Ouro Preto and São João del Rey); Petrópolis and Paraty, both in Rio de Janeiro; and Cunha, in the interior of São Paulo.

Cunha-Paraty
SP and RJ
Between the interior of São Paulo and the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro, this 9.4 km road is part of the Estrada Real.
The road provides access to attractions such as Lavandário de Cunha (KM 54.7), Serra do Mar State Park (KM 56.2) and Pedra da Macela, with pedestrian-only access at KM 66.
Lizard route
ES
It is about 8 km long, between BR-262 and Rodovia ES-164, officially called Rodovia Angelo Girardi.
This green corridor, cut by natural tunnels, crosses the main attraction of the region, Pedra Azul, a granite rock massif at 1,822 meters above sea level, whose shades range from greyish to blue, depending on the incidence of light.
The reptile-shaped protrusion that emerges from the main rock has given rise to the name of another point of interest: Pedra do Lagarto which, combined with Pedra Azul, seems to climb the postcard of the region.

Via Graciosa
PR
The PR-410 highway, better known as Estrada da Graciosa, is an ancient route for herdsmen heading towards the Paraná coast.
This road with winding curves features sections of irregular rocks and hosts viewpoints with panoramic views of the Serra do Mar, in seven different points, called “recantos”: Vista Lacerda, Rio Cascata, Grota Funda, Bela Vista, Curva da Ferradura, Mãe Catira and São João da Graciosa.
It is currently 30 km long, passing through Quatro Barras, Campina Grande do Sul and Morretes.

Serra del Rio do Rastro
SC
27 km from Urubici, in the Serra Catarinense, is the Serra do Corvo Brancomountains on the border with the municipality of Grão-Pará which are home to the largest fissure in the sandstone rock in Brazil, a 90 meter high cut.
Only experienced drivers should brave its dizzying curves, so leave your car at the attraction’s entrance and walk towards the road’s zigzag curves.
For those heading towards the coast, the road is the protagonist.
Begin the impressive 73km descent from Urubici via SC-430 and SC-438. Before embarking on the curves of the SC-438, make a stop in Mirante da Serra to observe from above the road that climbs those mountains towards sea level.
From Urubici, the highlight is the dizzying 73km descent Serra del Rio do Rastrowhich can be seen in Mirante da Serra, at the beginning of the street, in the city of Lauro Müller.
The last stop of this day is in Torres, at the northern end of the Rio Grande do Sul coast and 170 km away.

Transpantaneira
MT
The MT-060 is 140 km long, between Poconé, the gateway to the Mato Grosso pantanal, and the city of Porto Jofre.
The work itself is already an unmissable attraction in the northern Pantanal, especially during the flood season, when animals can be seen en masse on the sides of the road.
According to SINFRA-MT (Infrastructure and Logistics Secretariat), until 2019 the road hosted 120 bridges (88 of which were wooden).

BA
Between Prado and the village of Cumuruxatiba, a simple coastal road leads visitors to a sequence of isolated beaches in the far south of Bahia.
32 km long, the visitor passes around nine beaches, which can be reached by car or bicycle on strips of sand at the foot of colorful cliffs up to 40 meters high.

North of Manaus, this city has more than 100 cataloged waterfalls and is declared the “Land of Waterfalls.”
Access is via AM-240 (Estrada de Balbina), where most of the region’s waterfalls are located, with access from the road itself.
