“For All Mankind” renewed for season 4

Apple TV + announced the renewal of “For All Mankind” for its fourth season this Friday (7/22), during Comic-Con International in San Diego.

“I am thrilled to be able to move forward with this incredible story,” said creator Ronald D. Moore. “From the very beginning, I was hoping it would be a long journey of several years. It is gratifying to see what we have done and I am looking forward to seeing what we can do in the future.”

Developed by Moore, creator of the reboot of “Battlestar Galactica” and the “Outlander” series, the attraction explores an alternate timeline, which takes the Cold War into space with dramatic consequences. In the reality of the series, Soviet astronauts were the first to land on the Moon and the plot imagines the impact of this feat on the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.

The first season focused mainly on an alternative recreation of the 1970s, with advancements that did not exist at the time, such as the participation of astronauts in the first flights to the Moon. The second season brought history to the 1980s, with the creation of an American space force to fight lunar battles, while the third year shows how the competition of the two powers accelerated the conquest of Mars.

Season 4 will see this struggle for control of space as it enters the 21st century.

The series stars actor Joel Kinnaman (“Suicide Squad”), who plays one of NASA’s best astronauts, and the cast also includes Michael Dorman (“Patriot”), Wrenn Schmidt (“The Looming Tower”), Jodi Balfour (“The Crown”), Chris Bauer (“True Blood”), Sarah Jones (“Damnation”), Sonya Walger (“Lost”), Shantel VanSanten (“The Gunman”) and Michael Harney (“Orange Is the New Black “).

Co-produced by Sony Television, the series marks a creative partnership between Ronald D. Moore and two “Fargo” producers, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, who also work on the show’s scripts.

The third season, which premiered on June 10, will run until August 10. Episodes of the fourth season have yet to be released.
