Actress won the award for Best Actress in a Drama Film at the 82nd edition of the award almost three decades after her mother was nominated in the same category

Fernanda Torres made history by becoming the first Brazilian artist to win the Best Actress in a Drama Film category at the 82nd edition of Golden Globewhich took place last Sunday (5), in Beverly Hills, California, in the United States.

The victory of the actress, who won the trophy for her performance as Eunice Paiva in I’m Still Herefilm by Walter Sallescame 25 years after her mother, Fernanda Montenegrobeing nominated in the same category, in 1999, for Central Brazilalso directed by the filmmaker.

In his acceptance speech, Fernanda Torres He took the opportunity to remember his mother’s nomination and dedicated his victory to the veteran: “I want to dedicate this award to my mother. “I didn’t prepare anything because I don’t know if I was ready. It was an incredible year for the performance of actresses, so many actresses here that I admire so much. And, of course, I want to thank the Walter Sallesmy partner, my friend… What a story, walter.

“And, of course, I want to dedicate this award to my mother. You have no idea, she was here 25 years ago and this is proof that art persists in life even during difficult times when Eunice Paiva it happened. And with so many problems in the world today, so much fear, this film helped us think about how to survive in times like these.

What is the story of I’m Still Here?

Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, I’m Still Hereis set in Rio de Janeiro, in the early 1970s, amid the military dictatorship, and tells the story of Eunicemother of five children, who becomes involved in an endless search for the truth after her husband, Rubensbe taken away by undercover police officers and disappear.
