‘Morbius has the best Easter Eggs in the Spider-Man Universe

“Eating chocolate every day is the key to happiness.”

‘Morbius’ continues to expand on Sony’s Spider-Man universe and as such is chock full of Easter Eggs and references to it. In the new Marvel movie, Jared Leto stars as Dr. Michael Morbius, who, while trying to find a cure for his rare blood disease, becomes a living vampire, threatening the lives of everyone around him.

While it’s more inspired than based on the comics in the form of a direct adaptation of any ‘Morbius’ story, there are nods to the story throughout and it teases everything to come in a possible sequel. And yes, we are talking about the controversial post-credits scenes of ‘Morbius’.

In case you have missed any reference, we are here to help you with a roundup of the best Easter Eggs that can be found in ‘Morbius’. Be careful, there are spoilers below.

1. The Daily Bugle

The fact that the Daily Bugle is in ‘Morbiu’s isn’t an Easter Egg in itself, but you should pay close attention to its headlines every time they pop up on screen. At various points, we get nods to Spider-Man villains like the Chameleon and Rhino, as well as Spidey’s allies like Black Cat. The villains could play a role in future movies as post-credits scenes lead up to The 6. claims.

Our favorite headline is a reference to Venom, as we’re told “Eating chocolate every day is the key to happiness.” A good life lesson, but also a nod to the fact that Venom can sustain himself on chocolate.

    2. LCV Murnau

To test his cure, Morbius heads to international waters as it is an illegal experiment, but you have to pay close attention to the name of the ship: LCV Murnau. Murnau is a nod to FW Murnau, the movie genius who made ‘Nosferatu’, considered one of the most influential movies of all time. He not only defined vampire cinema to this day, but also influenced countless horror movies that followed.

    3. “That thing in San Francisco”

After investigating the massacre aboard the LCV Murnau, FBI agent Alberto Rodríguez (Al Madrigal) says there hasn’t been anything this powerful since “that thing in San Francisco.”

San Francisco is where the two Venom movies were set, so Rodriguez was mulling over what transpired in the events of those movies. However, it is not clear whether he is specifically referring to the former or the latter.

    4. Horizon Laboratories

Both before and after his transformation, Morbius works from his own laboratory located at Horizon Labs (Horizon Labs).

In the comics, Horizon Labs creates the most advanced technology in the Marvel universe and is home to seven scientists, including Dr. Michael Morbius. He is in charge of Laboratory 6 where, as he does in the movie, he tries to cure his condition as a living vampire. He is not very successful at it, but creates the Anti-Spider virus serum that can remove the powers of any individual who has them, such as Peter Parker.

Will this end up having consequences in a future movie? Maybe, but it’s not clear if Morbius will be able to return to his lab after, you know, killing a bunch of people.

    5.Hulk

It’s not just the Sony and Spider-Man universe that ‘Morbius’ references, there’s also a nod to ‘The Incredible Hulk’ TV series. When questioned by the FBI about the death of a nurse who worked with him, Morbius is struggling with his hunger problems and needs blood. “You don’t want to see me when I’m hungry,” he teases him.

Of course, this is a (dumb) nod to the “you won’t like to see me when I’m pissed off” Hulk. It doesn’t make much sense here though as we see Morbius in full vampire mode after drinking some blood but, when he gets hungry, he just starts to revert to his old weak self.

    6. Martine’s Dark Future

Before the big final battle between Morbius and Milo, it seems that we have said goodbye to Martine Bancroft (Adria Arjona) after Milo attacks her. Morbius drinks from her before he dies from her because he wants her to “mean something”, not knowing that he will actually turn her into a vampire. Then, we see his eyes widen as Morbius flies away after finishing off Milo once and for all.

Comic book fans will know that Martine undergoes a similar vampiric transformation in the comics. It eventually leads to a tragic end for her and Morbius, as he is forced to kill her to stop her from killing Spider-Man. Will a sequel follow this dark path? Maybe. But we think that if a sequel happens, it won’t slavishly follow the comics like the first movie doesn’t either.

    7. Claims 6

We knew from the Morbius trailers that Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, would appear in the film, but it was later revealed that he is only in the two post-credit scenes.

First, we see him transported to this universe and he is released from jail as he technically did not commit any crime. We then see him (now in his full Vulture outfit, somehow) meet Morbius and suggest that “a bunch of us should team up.”

Everyone knows that it’s a clue to the formation of ‘The Sinister 6’, something that Sony has tried before with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. Venom and Kraven the Hunter, who will make his debut next year, could be part of this new version of the team.

Whether this attempt is more successful than Sony’s previous effort remains to be seen.

‘Morbius’ is already in cinemas in Spain.
