Initially, the film would star Paul Mescalbut scheduling conflicts forced the actor to leave the project. Now, Jacob Elordi is in negotiations to take on the lead role, according to information from the magazine Variety.
Based on the 2012 novel by Peter Heller, The Dog Stars takes place in a world devastated by a virus that has wiped out almost all of humanity. The script, signed by Mark L. Smith (Twisters), follows the story of Hig, a pilot who forms an unlikely friendship with a grumpy sniper as they face a group of marauders known as Reapers.
Scott had already suggested Mescal’s departure during a conversation with Christopher Nolanrevealing that the actor would be busy with the Beatles anthology, directed by Sam Mendes. Rumors indicate that Mescal may play Paul McCartney in the project.
Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi, known as Priscilla and the series Euphoriais involved in adapting Wuthering Heightswhere he will star alongside Margot Robbie. It is not yet known how the actor will adjust his schedule if he takes on the role in The Dog Starswhich should start filming in 2025.
