Hollywood is threatened by fire: houses burned, events canceled… what will be the consequences?

The situation is catastrophic in Los Angeles, where several fires have broken out in the city. Due to the wind, the fire spread at an impressive speed. The very dry region has had no rain since May 2024.

As a result, tens of thousands of people were evacuated and thousands of houses were completely destroyed. The fire has killed five people so far. The elegant Pacific Palisades neighborhood — and popular with many celebrities — was nearly destroyed by fire.

The stars acted

Several personalities were evacuated, such as Mark Hamill, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks… others saw their homes destroyed, such as actresses Anna Faris, James Woods – who could not hold back tears in an interview with CNN – Cary Elwes, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester…

The neighborhood has also been the setting for many iconic movies. Le Monde reports that the Palisades Charter High School, seen in the Brian De Palma film Carrie, and many other buildings are completely gone.

Events have been postponed or cancelled

Obviously, this natural disaster has a devastating effect on the lives of the population, but also on the organization of the Hollywood industry. Filming was halted, premieres were canceled and award ceremonies were postponed. The Critics Choice Awards, which were supposed to be held on January 12, will finally be held on January 26.

The Oscar nominations, which were to be announced on January 17, have been postponed by two days to January 19. The SAG Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, January 8 in a simple press release.

Fires may hinder many other events in the future. At the moment, several hundred firefighters continue to extinguish the fire.
