“While the significant reduction in suspicious departures in 2024 gives us reason for optimism, it also highlights the need for continued vigilance and innovation,” says Sportradar Executive Vice President

After years of growth, corruption in the world of sport, especially in soccerwent into decline in 2024. That’s the conclusion of the annual health report released by the sports technology company Sports radarwhich monitored more than 850,000 games played around the world in 70 sports during the year.

The company identified 1,108 suspicious games, a 17% decline from 2023, across 12 different modes. Europe is the continent most affected by match fixing, with 439 suspicious matches, despite a 34% drop compared to the previous year. Significant improvement also occurred in Africa, where the largest reduction occurred (36%).

According to the report, 721 of the suspected matches are football matches, which saw an 18% reduction compared to the previous year (881). Brazil recorded 57 clashes detected by the Sportradar system in 2024, almost half of the 110 in 2023, and lost its world lead in games suspected of manipulation.

In the case of Brazil, matches with strong signs of rigged results occur mainly in the lower divisions of regional and state competitions. According to the study, only four suspect matches from 2024 were played in competitions organized by the CBF, which represents only 0.18% of the total.

“While the significant reduction in suspicious departures in 2024 gives us reason for optimism, it also highlights the need for continued vigilance and innovation as the number is still significant,” said Andreas Krannich, Executive Vice President, Integrity, Rights Protection and Regulatory Services by Sportradar, which maintains partnerships with entities such as CBF, FIFA, Uefa and Conmebol, as well as organizations such as IOC, ATP, NBA and Nascar. “We will continue to improve our technologies and collaborate with the sports and betting industry to promote fair play and protect the integrity of sport around the world.”

To monitor competitions and identify irregular betting patterns, the company uses data analytics and artificial intelligence technology. The data collected aided in investigations that led to 104 convictions in 15 countries in 2024.
