A real little masterpiece

Animated and with techniques that are sadly almost obsolete and which should delight purists, it benefits from expert work in terms of animation, Spirit is an ode to life and liberty that will not leave you indifferent. Amazingly effective and absolutely thrilling, this universal story, played by a particularly endearing cast, is also served by a masterful soundtrack. Highlighted by the songs of Bryan Adams, this is indeed Hans Zimmer, a true maestro of film music, who has already proven himself to a large extent in the animation The Lion King and The Prince of Egypt.

The proof: When we had a chance to speak with him on the studio’s 30th anniversary, founder Jeffrey Katzenberg spoke of the feature film as the greatest artistic pride of his entire career.

“It might surprise you because it wasn’t a huge success, but I think artistically it’s our most daring film yet. It’s Spirit, Stallion of the Plains.”He told us in May 2014.

“It’s our last traditional animation. It’s a very clean film in terms of animation. The main character, the horse, the spirit, never speaks. So the only acting comes from the animation. And it’s a musical, but no one sings the music from the soundtrack, and so I think It’s one of the most animated movies. It wasn’t a huge success, I think it’s a huge success.”
