Released in French cinemas on June 21, 1995, Richie Richie Takes Mother, I Missed The Plane saga star: Macaulay Caulkin. At that time, he was definitely the most famous young actor on the planet.
Unfortunately, the hype around him faded, and Richie Rich was a miserable commercial failure worldwide on a $40 million budget, hastening the fall of the beloved 90s movie star.
The unfairly forgotten 90s
However, Richie Richie is one of the best gems of the era and deserves to be watched with the family, curled up on the couch with cookies and hot chocolate. That’s good, it’s available on Netflix! Directed by Donald Petrie, the story follows Richard and Regina Rich, played by Edward Herrmann and Christine Ebersole.
The couple’s fortune is estimated at 70 billion dollars. Their son, aptly named Ritchie Ritchie, would be declared the “world’s richest kid”. However, as he grows up, the boy realizes that there is one thing money can’t buy: friends. One day, when Richie’s parents are on a business trip, his butler, Herbert Cadbury, invites some teenagers over so that the young man can make friends.
During this trip, his parents were the victims of an attack planned by Lawrence Van Duff, one of their employees, and his accomplice, Mr. Ferguson; Two villains want to control rich industries. Richie, Cadbury and his friends will do everything to stop them from stealing their vault.

Second life on video… and streaming!
If Ritchie Ritchie was a failure in theaters, she had a second youth on video! The feature film grossed $125 million in VHS rentals. Additionally, in April 1997, it generated $44.2 million in physical sales!
Available on Netflix, it’s definitely worth a look, especially for the generosity of its cast, starring Jonathan Hyde as the excellent Cadbury, the kind and primitive butler. If Macaulay Culkin feels a little faded compared to his performances in Mom, I Missed the Plane, he owns the character of an ultra-rich teenager who seeks friendship at all costs.
The feature film ends when Cadbury decides to invite the young proletarian children to the huge estate of the rich. Every teenager in the 90s dreamed of becoming Richie or friends who were invited to ride quad bikes on the lawn, throw from a catapult or eat at a specially arranged McDonald’s at home!
And Richie Richie offers us a very important lesson: no matter how much material wealth you have, you will never be able to find love or friendship, even if you weigh 70 billion dollars like the hero of the movie!
Don’t hesitate any longer and have a Netflix and chill session in front of Richie Richie!
