Crime Squad: PantherChristian Gudegast’s 2018 action sequel has topped the North American box office with $15.5 million in its opening weekend. That’s slightly more than the first installment, which made $15.2 million on its opening weekend, and ended its career with $80 million worldwide.

In this sequel, Gerard Butler reprises his role as Big Nick, a Los Angeles cop who tracks Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), a former Marine thief, to Europe. The latter is preparing to steal a stock of diamonds.

Mufasa Barry Jenkins is in second place with an additional $13.2 million, for a cumulative total of $188.7 million on American soil and $540 million worldwide to date. After a rocky start, the $200 million budget Lion King prequel did well domestically, but still fell short of Jon Favreau’s film.

Sonic 3 It ranks third at the US box office with $11 million. The third installment of The Adventures of Little Blue Hedgehog crossed the $200 million mark in the US market and earned $384.8 million worldwide. That’s more than the first installment, which had $320 million at the end of its run, but less than the second opus and its $405 million in revenue.

Better Man, the Robbie Williams biopic featuring a singing monkey, managed just $1.05 million despite good reviews from the press and the public. Michael Grace’s British feature film, which opened in US theaters on December 25 on a limited basis, has earned 10 million worldwide. It will be released in French cinemas on January 22.
