Squid Game Season 2 took just two weeks to topple Netflix’s most-watched series. On January 9, the platform premiered its all-new mini-series on America’s Dawn, a Twilight Western from the screenwriter of The Revenant.
This program aims to be a realistic portrait of the American West. Its story combines artistic and historical facts, and the consultants made possible the authentic reconstruction of the native tribes represented in the series. In this way, “American Dawn” was like the Shogun for the Western to the samurai films of yesteryear.
A must have for season 2
The success of the series may convince Netflix to change its plans. Initially, the program was developed with only one season of six episodes. But all indications are that a season 2 could see the light of day, either as a direct sequel or in an anthology format.
Our colleagues were questioned decideSeries director Peter Berg said he was open to the idea of a sequel, provided Indigenous cultural consultant Julie O’Keefe would also return. He also joked that he will only agree to shoot the second season if it does not happen in the winter:
After filming, I looked at the actors – those whose characters are still alive – and felt love for them. I think there are different solutions for us. (…) As long as I don’t have to wear ice crampons for filming, I’m ready to start over.
A major historical event in the middle of season two?
Recall that the mini-series ends with Isaac sacrificing himself to protect the lives of Sarah, Devin and De Lunes. Logically, in the case of a possible sequel, these three characters would continue their journey to California.
We also envision the possibility of the story focusing on secondary characters like Governor Brigham Young (Kim Coates) or Trapper Jim Bridger (Shea Whigham) to revisit the Utah War. This battle between Mormons and federal government troops is one of the most important events in American history.
As of now, Netflix has yet to announce an official renewal for the series. There is no doubt that if the success of the program is confirmed, it will not take long for the platform to decide on ordering one or more seasons.
