The two actors work together in ‘Charlie’s Angels’
Lucy Liu does not regret having made accusations about Bill Murray public.
In an interview with The Guardian (via People), published this Monday, 13th, the actress recalled what it was like to work with Murray in Charlie’s Angels (2000). Second Liuthe actor “hurled insults” at her, using “inexcusable and unacceptable” language, according to the Los Angeles Times in 2021.
Although she “probably had the least share of privileges in terms of creative participation”, Liu “didn’t think about it” when revealing the problems he had with Murray on the film set. “I would have done it in any situation,” reflected the actress. “I think when I feel like there’s something wrong, I protect myself. It’s an innate thing you do when you feel like there’s injustice, and I always feel that way.”
Liu continued: “But since I’ve never been that person, we have to find another way.”
Still in 2021, the actress talked about what happened on the podcast Asian Enoughfrom Los Angeles Times. “While we were shooting the scene, Bill He started hurling insults, and I won’t go into the details, but he continued without stopping,” he recalled.
“I was like, ‘Wow, it feels like he’s looking right at me.’ I couldn’t believe that [os insultos] could be directed at me, because what did I have to do with something so important at that time? I literally do that motion where I look over my shoulder, thinking, ‘Who is he talking to behind me?’ I say, ‘Sorry, are you talking to me?’ And it became clear that it did, because it started to become direct communication.”
She added: “Some of the words were inexcusable and unacceptable, and I wasn’t just going to sit there and take it. So, yes, I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it. Because no matter how low in the pecking order you might be or where you came from , there’s no need to be condescending or put other people down. And I wouldn’t, nor should I have.”
