France shines thanks to Emilia Perez: Jacques Audiard’s film leads the BAFTA nominations!

After the success of Justin Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall, French cinema continues to surprise the world and the BAFTA nominations, revealed on Wednesday, January 15, prove it once again. Twice awarded at the Cannes Film Festival – the best actress prize and the jury prize – Emilia Perez Jacques Audiard received no less than 11 nominations for the British Oscar.

The horror film Substance, directed by Frenchwoman Coralie Fargeat, winner of the Cannes Screenplay Award, received 5 nominations, including a BAFTA for Best Actress (Demi Moore) and a BAFTA for Best Director Coralie Fargeat.

The filmmaker is the only woman who made it to the list of nominated directors. The category is distinguished by the presence of two Frenchmen, as Jacques Audiard is also named after Emilia Perez.

As for the most nominated film, it is the successful Conclave, which takes first place with 12 nominations in all categories combined.
