CinemaRemember the Playstation campaign directed by David Lynch that left fans confused

The death of David Lynchannounced this Thursday, 16th, made fans and celebrities revisit the artist’s most diverse works.

The Australian Playstation honored Lynch and published a video of a campaign for the console launched in 2000. The Playstation 2 advertisement, titled “Welcome To The Third Place” — “Welcome to the Third Place”, in free translation — was directed by the filmmaker.

Filmed in black and white, the commercial seems to compare the immersion of the video game with that offered by the works of Lynchthat is, nothing is so obvious. An Internet user commented, for example, that the video makes several references to Twin Peaksa series co-created by the director.

“I haven’t seen this commercial in so many years and I’m only now realizing how many references to Twin Peaks there is in it. The Arm, Laura Palmer (wrapped in plastic), the Agent giving a thumbs up. I’m sure there’s more,” the fan wrote.

David Lynch has an extensive CV, involving music and painting — in addition to films and series — and gave his opinion on directing commercials back in 1999, when he gave an interview to the American magazine Movieline (via NME):

It’s good money, and the bonus is that I get to learn about the most advanced technology, tools that wouldn’t normally be available to me, and then I get to use those instruments in my film work.
