Even though Outlander is coming to an end soon, with a season 8 that promises to be heartbreaking, Starz is already preparing a sequel. Blood of my Blood, the first spin-off based on the adventures of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan), will be airing very soon on the American channel, rated 4.2 out of 5 by AlloCiné subscribers. And the first teaser has just been revealed.
Unlike the parent series, where a nurse travels back in time despite herself and lives with a warrior Scotsman, Blood of Blood will take place in two different time periods. This prequel revisits the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen McKenzie and Brian Fraser, and Claire’s parents, Julia Morriston and Henry Beauchamp, exploring how far one can go for love at a time when marriage has a strategic, often political, role. or for financial purposes.
New fan favorite pairings?
The series takes us to 18th century Scotland and the middle of the First World War. If Blood of My Blood is not a direct adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels (even if she is a producer here), we still find the same ingredients:
A little taste of romance (forbidden to Jamie’s parents), a few sultry scenes, a touch of history and drama. The first pictures of actresses Harriet Slater (Ellen McKenzie), Jamie Roy (Brian Fraser), Hermione Corfield (Julia Morriston) and Jeremy Irvine (Henri Beauchamp) already make us attached to these characters.
Note that Claire and Jamie will appear in the series… but as children! In Outlander we also learn that Nurse lost her parents in a car accident when she was 5, suggesting that the plot will mostly take place before her birth.
While an exact launch date has not been revealed, the date is still set for this summer. The channel broadcasts 10 episodes weekly. Netflix, which has the rights to the Outlander series in France, has yet to communicate on the subject, but it would make perfect sense for it to also offer the spin-off to its subscribers.
One thing is for sure, there is still much to explore in the fantastical world presented by Diana Gabaldon. And we haven’t heard the last of it on TV.
