THE TV Cultura will display this Saturday, January 18th, at 11:45 pma special edition of Roda Viva with the participation of the filmmaker David Lynchin honor of the director, who passed away on the 15th, aged 78. The interview, conducted by Lillian Witte Fibeoriginally aired in November 2008 and covered the director’s career and reflections on art, meditation and creativity.
At the time, the director came to Brazil to promote the book In Deep Waters – Creativity and Meditation, and to talk about the his experience with transcendental meditation on the TV Cultura program. During the conversation, Lynch also spoke about the future of cinema, the drop in attendance and DVD sales, and how the arrival of the internet would forever change the way we consume films.
“The film, although on celluloid, is big, heavy and slow, which reminds me of dinosaurs slowly disappearing”highlighted the director at the time, anticipating that the internet was getting faster and faster and that everything would migrate to the web.
The program’s interview panel included journalists Ricardo Calil; José Geraldo Couto; Leon Cakoff and Ubiratan Brasil.
Known for his surrealist style and dark narratives, Lynch revolutionized cinema and TV with works such as Blue Velvet (1986), City of Dreams (2001) and the iconic series Twin Peaks (1990). Throughout his career, he received four Oscar nominations, won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and established his name as one of the most influential filmmakers of all time.
Lynch was also a painter, photographer and musician.
