In Caruaru, Pernambuco, the second earthquake of the year was recorded

An earthquake of magnitude 1.5 mR was recorded in the city of Caruaru (PE) in the early hours of Thursday 16th, according to the Seismological Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). This is the second seismic activity recorded in Pernambuco in recent days.

According to the institution, until the publication of this article, there are no reports of people having felt the tremor. The small tremor occurred around 5:03 am (Brasilia time).

On the night of Saturday 12th, an activity with a calculated magnitude of 1.8 mR had already been recorded in Belo Jardim (PE). At that time, the event took place at 11.41pm (Brasilia time) and was not felt by residents.

Tremors of this type are common in Pernambuco and almost all of northeastern Brazil. According to the Seismology Laboratory, 241 seismic events were classified in 2024.

In the survey, Pernambuco had 21 seismic events last year. The state with the highest number is Bahia, with 130.

The UFRN Seismological Laboratory continues to monitor and publicize seismic activities occurring in Northeast Brazil.
