Little House on the Prairie continues to reveal behind-the-scenes stories as its cast members speak to the media. Today it’s the case of Melora Hardin, who is known for her role as Jenny, Michael Scott’s companion in The Office, and who starred in the western show when she was still a teenager.
You never felt scolded
Michael Landon (Charles Ingalls)
“It was a very pleasant experience” The actor told the podcast about it Still here Hollywood (via Recreational television), “And I think it was the first time I worked with someone like Michael Landon who had that community spirit, which I also found doing Full Power with Clint Eastwood. He has this team that follows him from film to film, and he works quickly as Michael .Landon did it on television.”
“He was warm and made children and adults alike feel that he personally chose them and let them do anything. When he gave you direction, you never felt reprimanded, he was lovely.”
These positive comments about Michael Landon contrast with comments made by Karen Grassley (Caroline Ingalls), who accused the actor-producer of sexist behavior.
Melora Hardin played two characters in the series!

Melora Hardin
“I was 13 and my character, Belinda, was locked in an icebox by ‘New Nelly’, which was just as bad as the original,” Melora Hardin recalls. Indeed, in the first two episodes of season 8, Madame Oleson tries to “change” her daughter, who has gone to New York. So he adopts a rebellious orphan with a character similar to his daughter.
“When Matthew LaBiorto left the show because his character had leukemia – I played his love interest, which led to our first on-screen kiss. He’s still a very good friend and godfather to my second daughter!”

Michelle kisses Albert
If you don’t remember Melora Hardin as Albert’s girlfriend, it’s because she played her in a little-known TV movie called Little House: Look Back to Yesterday (1983), actually directed by Victor French (Isaiah, Charles’ bearded best friend in the series ). Her character is named Michelle Pearson and she is trying to become a school teacher.
But Melora Hardin could play yet a third character in the series, as she also auditioned for a flashback episode:
“I was nine years old with Mati LaBiorto for a show when we had to play young Caroline and Charles Ingalls in a dance scene. Matthew had already been cast and he said he’d rather have me with him because I was acting. Don’t step on his toes, I was a dancer, (…) I wanted to become a ballerina! In the end, the actress was not cast and returned four years later as Belinda Stevens.
