The teams face a fierce duel at different times, but they do not remove zero from the scoreboard, this Sunday, in the FC Series, in Florida
In a player and tactical test match, Sao Paulo and Flamengo drew 0-0, at Chase Stadium, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the FC Series. The main Rubro-Negro team entered the field for the first time this year, but coach Filipe Luís made many changes in the second half. The Rio team did better in the first half, while they defended more in the final. On the other hand, Tricolor Paulista counted on Jandrei’s good defense in the first 45 minutes and showed themselves more aggressive in the final. No goals, though.
The Sao Paulo team will return to Brazil at the beginning of this week and will be available for the match against Guarani, Thursday at 7.30pm (Brasilia time), at Morumbis, for the Paulistão. On the other hand, Flamengo, in fact, could have maximum strength in next Saturday’s match, against Volta Redonda, at the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasilia. Before that, Rubro-Negro will face Nova Iguaçu, this Sunday, and Bangu, on Wednesday, both matches in São Luís do Maranhão, for the Campeonato Carioca, with an alternative lineup.
Duel between goalkeepers
The teams still need to improve their pace of play and chemistry, but there was a first half with chances for both teams and the goalkeepers were the protagonists. Flamengo tried to keep more possession to create scoring opportunities. Rubro-Negro, after all, had more opportunities. Wesley came face to face with Jandrei, who he defended. Shortly afterwards, Erick Pulgar shot from outside the area and another fell to Bruno Henrique, stopped by defender Ruan. Alcaraz eventually headed the corner, but Jandrei prevented the goal. On the other hand, San Paolo played a more reactive match and looked for speed to complete plays as quickly as possible. Lucas Moura has been called into question several times. However, it lacked effectiveness. Calleri, in fact, was scared twice. The first with a shot inside the area and the second, at the end of the first half, with a powerful header. Rossi, among other things, also made two good saves.
Duo Cotia
For the match, San Paolo made the debut of midfielder Oscar, the main signing of the transfer window. The number 8 only played in the second half against the Minas Gerais team and, this Sunday, he started against the Rossoneri. The player first played in the main team with Lucas Moura. The two won the Confederations Cup in 2013 and the South American Under-20 Championship in 2011 with the Brazilian team.
Tests and few scoring opportunities
After the break the coaches made many changes in preparation for the start of the season. Filipe Luís completely changed the team, while Zubeldía made substitutions throughout the match. Flamengo had difficulty setting up plays and did not find the same ease. For most of the time, the Rossoneri team, made up of young players and reserves, defended themselves. Ayrton Lucas risked a shot, but the ball went very far from goal. Plata tries to counterattack, but without success. San Paolo, therefore, showed greater offensive power. Bobadilla and Erick, with two chances each, managed to scare goalkeeper Matheus Cunha. Furthermore, the team lost Luciano who suffered a serious head injury and was replaced. In the end, the Sao Paulo team showed more harmony and showed more plans to try to get the score zero. Despite the attempts, the teams ended up equal on points.
