Marvel released the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” poster and trailer online at the same time as the film’s panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. To the sound of “No Woman no Cry”, a classic by Bob Marley, the preview invests in a strong emotional climate of mourning, but does not explain how T’Chala, the character played by Chadwick Boseman, died in the plot. In real life, the actor died of cancer in 2020.
But the people of the nation of Wakanda don’t have much time to honor their former king, as the scenes quickly become tense with the threat of an impending war with Atlantis and an invasion led by Namor, the Submariner.
The ceremony in honor of T’Chala and the grandiose fighting produce beautiful scenes in the video, with an emphasis on the action of the warriors of Wakanda. The finale, however, features a new character wearing the Black Panther outfit. With no close-ups revealing too much, it’s clear this is a strong man. And the salary increase obtained by actor Winston Duke to participate in the sequel, everything indicates that M’Baku, a former rival who became T’Challa’s ally in the first film, became the hero’s replacement.
According to rumors, screenwriter and director Ryan Coogler even considered Letitia Wright as Boseman’s replacement. This trajectory would reflect the comics, in which Princess Shuri, the character of the actress, once wore the uniform of the hero. But after Wright had a social media vaccination controversy, that option was ruled out.
The actress also had an accident while filming, which left her out of much of the production.
The film also features the return of Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman and Florence Kasumba (but not Daniel Kaluuya, due to the conflict with the filming of “No! Don’t Look”), and will introduce Dominique Thorne. (“Judas and the Black Messiah”) as Riri Williams, Ironheart, who will have her series on Disney + in 2023.
Finally, Mexican Tenoch Huerta (“The Purge: The Frontier”) plays Namor, the Sub-Mariner.
The premiere of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is scheduled for November 10 in Brazil, one day before its US release.
