With 5,457,276 admissions in 2010, Les Petits Mouchoirs remains Guillaume Canet’s greatest public success. Fifteen years later, as part of AlloCiné’s microphone big screen Filmed in the heart of Le Grand Rex cinema’s infinity room, the actor-director recalls his special experience on this buddy film, the sequel to We’ll End It Together… and a possible third installment.
“The process of making it brought out something in me that I didn’t feel happy about”
“I did the second one because I didn’t experience the first one. It was very difficult. In the first one, I tell the story of a friend I lost. So I was very unhappy on the set. I wasn’t there. Luckily they were too, otherwise it would have been a disaster… But I asked them to That they brought this group to life and they did the production process perfectly, it stirred something in me that I didn’t feel happy.”
“On the day of my release I lost another friend from the same gang under the same circumstances”
“And then when the movie came out, on the day of its release, I lost another friend from the same gang under the same circumstances, so in the morning, at 8:00 am, I was at NRJ and I got a message so needless to say, when the movie came out , I did not see, I did not appreciate at all that 5.5 million reception, it was a completely abstract thing for me, because in this process I was burying my friend so I did not like this walk.
“One day I wanted to find them again and wrote this sequel”
“And years later I came across the film on TV and said to myself, ‘Here, I’ll watch it for two minutes,’ and finally, finally, I watched it, and I was glad to find this tape. It made me laugh, it made me stumble, and I said to myself, ‘It’s stupid, because I made this film with respect and really I didn’t experience it”. Then, as people kept asking me for a sequel, one day I wanted to find them again and wrote this sequel.”
“We’ll make Les Petits cookies at the nursing home!”
“Now that I’m doing the third one, I’m not sure that’s necessarily the best idea at the moment, maybe one day we’ll see ‘Little Handkerchief in the Nursing Home.’
