Busy week for Netflix. After the company released strong numbers for the final quarter of 2024, indicating an increase of 19 million new subscribers, the streaming platform has now made a new announcement.
The company will adjust service prices to most subscription levels in some countries, such as the United States and Canada. The last time Netflix increased the price of its standard plan was in 2022.
According to the company, the price of the standard ad-free plan will increase by $2.50, from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. The ad-supported plan will have an adjustment of US$1, going from US$6.99 to US$7.99. The Premium plan, in turn, will increase from US$22.99 to US$24.99 per month. Netflix also reported that the cost to add another screen went from $7.99 a month to $8.99.
In a statement, the streaming platform noted that “as we continue to invest in programming and offer more value to our subscribers, we will occasionally ask them to pay a little more so we can reinvest in making Netflix even better.”
The changes apply to subscribers in the United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina. This means that users in Brazil will not be affected, although the company does not rule out future adjustments in other countries.
The last increase here occurred in May 2024. Currently, Netflix plans in Brazil are: standard with ads (R$ 20.90 per month), standard without ads (R$ 44.90 per month) and premium (R$ $59.90 per month).
