Booed for Cruzeiro’s defeat, Diniz reveals how to ease the friction

With Cruzeiro’s 1-0 defeat against Athletic in the second round of the Campeonato Mineiro, the fans present at the Mané Garrincha were angry with coach Fernando Diniz. After the opponent’s goal the fans shouted insults, whistles and even “Diniz out!”. The coach commented on the situation after the match.

“Only with a victory (changes the scenario). There is no other way. If you don’t win you won’t convince the fans, who have the right to boo. Well, you have to win the games, win the championship. Otherwise it will be precisely in this environment that later we will score the goal,” he said.

Last season was not good for Diniz in charge of Cruzeiro, but, when asked how to improve the situation, the coach revealed that he is always learning and does not reflect only when bad results arrive.

“We always learn. I will say something about 2024. When negative results happen, we become more reflective and end up learning. Because of today’s defeat, it remained an opportunistic issue and I will say that I learned a lot because against Atlético the team did not have won, but against San Paolo he played well, against Tombense he played well, but today he played badly”, he began.

“I’m not reflecting on why the team lost today. This type of reflection doesn’t interest me just because the team lost now. Reflection on last year, we are digesting everything, to improve and help Cruzeiro,” the coach added.
