The Academy revealed new plans for this year’s edition, abandoning tradition

The ceremony of Oscar this year will not feature the typical presentations in the Best Original Song category. Artists nominated for the award, taken by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell in the last edition, they used to perform before the winner was announced.

The president and CEO of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Janet Yang and Bill Kramerrespectively, shared a letter explaining the reason for the decision.

“This year, the Best Original Song category presentation will not feature live performances and will focus on the songwriters. We will celebrate their artistry through personal reflections from the teams who bring these songs to life. All this and more will reveal the stories and inspirations behind this year’s nominees”, they explained (via NME).

Yang and Kramer also stated that the ceremony will feature tributes related to the fires that hit Los Angeles in recent weeks: “We will reflect on recent events while highlighting the strength, creativity and optimism that define Los Angeles and our industry.”
