Pay channel FX has renewed “Mayans MC” for its fifth season. The series is a spin-off of “Sons of Anarchy”, the original attraction of the channel’s biker gang.
The new season will be the third season shot without the participation of writer-producer Kurt Sutter, creator of both “Sons of Anarchy” and the spinoff, who was fired from the channel due to “multiple reports” of aggressive behavior on set. The producer acknowledged his actions in an open letter to cast and production, describing himself as “a hot-headed asshole.”
The development of the spin-off was made in collaboration between Sutter and Elgin James, who has a life trajectory similar to that of the characters: he founded a gang in Boston and served a prison sentence. His directorial debut came with the delicate and acclaimed independent drama “Little Birds” (2011), which screened at the Sundance Film Festival, and he also wrote the screenplay for “Lowriders” (2017), a drama about the Latin culture of poisoned machines. .
With the co-creator at the helm of the production, the show remained among FX’s most viewed in its 3rd and 4th seasons.
The fourth year of production ended in June in the US with a dark twist, with EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), the reluctant protagonist of the plot, taking over the helm of the Maya motorcycle club – in a trajectory that is very reminiscent of that evolution. by Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) in “Sounds of Anarchy”.
“Mayans MC” is made available in Brazil on the Star + platform.
