The “Game of Thrones” prologue isn’t called “House of the Dragon” for nothing. During Comic-Con International in San Diego, creator Ryan J. Condal revealed that the series will feature 17 different dragons, each with their own individual characteristics.
“It was very important to differentiate them not just in their looks, but in the way they behave and their personalities,” explained the producer. Despite this, not all dragons will appear in the first season of the series.
In terms of comparison, it’s worth mentioning that Daenerys had three dragons in “Game of Thrones” and was able to destroy King’s Landing with just one of them.
The writer of the books that inspired the franchise, George RR Martin, said he has already seen the episodes of “House of the Dragon” and approved the result. “These books and these characters are my kids, so I was a little nervous at first. But I was very lucky, Ryan did a great job,” he said.
The new series follows the Targaryen family, the clan of Daenerys, 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones”, and focuses on the succession crisis of King Viserys (Paddy Considine, “Peaky Blinders”).
The dispute arises because Viserys has chosen his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy, from “Truth Seekers”), as heir to the Iron Throne. Although she is ready to reign from childhood, her rise is not accepted by those who prefer one man to power: the king’s brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, played by Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”).
The list of notable conspiracy characters still highlights Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) as Hand of the Hand (the second most powerful official position in the Seven Kingdoms), Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”) as her daughter Alicent Hightower and Steve Toussaint (“It’s a pity”) as Lord Corlys Velaryon, the sea serpent.
Along with screenwriter Ryan J. Condal (creator of the sci-fi series “Colony”), the production also includes Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for directing the famous “Battle of the Bastards” episode of “Game of Thrones”. He signs the direction of the first episodes of the attraction.
