Zachary Levi’s superhero is coming sooner than expected!
Shazam, DC’s funniest and “wonderful” hero is back in a sequel. Given the success of his first film, ‘Shazam!’, The news came out the same 2019 as its premiere and has been in development since then, due to the pandemic. In it we will meet again that foster child who only has to say the magic word, Shazam! to become his best version of the future: a tall and muscular hero played by Zachary Levi. Billy Batson is back.

The sequel to Shazam was initially scheduled to be shot in 2020 to hit theaters on April 1, 2022, but with that schedule the production suffered all the consequences of the pandemic and has ended up being delayed. Shazam: Fury of the Gods was going to be released on June 2, 2023. Finally the date is brought forward! We will see it next Christmas: its new date is December 21, 2022.
The film was shot in the summer of 2021, which means that it will be in post-production for a long time. If Warner Bros has not wanted to schedule it for before, it is because it is carefully preparing DC’s release schedule and intends that before the reunion with Billy Batson we know the adventures of ‘Black Adam’. Which has given fans a lot to talk about. Will there be any relationship between the movies? The post-credits scene of ‘Shazam!’ featured Mister Mindcausing many to think that the villain would team up with Dr. Thaddeus Silvana (Mark Strong), but some time ago the casting information shifted that possibility to focus on three sisters who will be the new and mysterious villains of Shazam.
The film’s director himself, David F. Sandberg, admitted that “it’s going to be a little unexpected.” The main speculation has been that it will be a modern reinvention of the Three Faces of Evil, in the manner of the three-headed dragon: terror, sin and evil. It is one of the most powerful enemies of DC, who also has the ability to change the shape of his face, which could justify that in this new formulation he was played by three actresses. He also connects with the typical characteristics of the Hecate Sistersof three different ages: the young maiden, the vigorous mother and the wise old woman.
Whether it’s true or not that the source of inspiration is the Three Faces of Evil, we now know more about the trio of sisters. They are daughters of the character of Atlas, the titan, and it seems that they have not had any previous appearance in the comics. The median and the largest are called, respectively Kalypso and Hespera. Be that as it may, the title of “fury of the gods” is based on these three. It is not clear, however, where this will leave Mister Mind.

As expected, Zachary Levi will come back as Shazam and Ash Angel like young Billy Batson. And together with both actors, his adoptive and heroic brothers in fiction: Jack Dylan Grazer as Freedy Freeman, now after having played the popular leading man of ‘We Are Who We Are’, and Adam Brody as his alter ego Super Hero Freddy; Ian Chen Y Ross Butler as Eugene Choi and his alter ego respectively; JIvan Armand Y DJ Cotron like the two versions of Pedro Peña and Faith Herman Y Meagan Good like Darla Dudley’s.
In the first photo of the superhero team we have already been able to see them all in the costume of the film. Shazam will no longer be alone.
They are incorporated Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren Y Lucy Liu in the role of the three sisters and daughters of Atlas. Mirren and Liu will respectively play Hespera and Kalypso, the middle and oldest of them; but we still don’t know the name of Rachel Zegler’s character. What is certain is that the actress of María in ‘West Side Story’ is going to bring us more than one surprise.
Among the absences, it seems confirmed that Mark Strong will not return as the villainous Dr. Sivana. And, as much as fans may want it, we won’t see either Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam (hopefully in an upcoming sequel) or Henry Cavill as Superman.
