With memorable films and recent participation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Ethan Hawke carefully thinks about his next steps
Ethan Hawke revealed to be in the ‘final stage’ of his career. In an interview with IndieWireHollywood star commented how he prefers to think carefully about his next steps and projects, as he approaches retirement.
“I feel like playing John Brown in The Good Lord Bird (2020) was the beginning of my ‘old man’ career, the beginning of my last act. I definitely went from a young old man to a young old man.”
Hawke starred in numerous successful films such as The Dead Poets Society (1989), before dawn (1995), the predestined (2014) and the man of the north (2022). At 51 years old, he is the antagonist of the feature film the black phone (2022), which hit national theaters last Thursday, July 21.
Still on the retirement of the big screen, Hawke reassured audiences after revealing that he doesn’t intend to stop anytime soon, and it will be a smooth, ‘almost imperceptible’ transition: “I definitely find myself looking at a filmography and thinking about which ones I could have cut, because I have little time left.”
Hawke pointed out some works carried out during the trajectory, considering that some of them could have brought more learning or simply, have refused and spent more time with family and friends, which gave him a ‘time consciousness’ about his career in Hollywood.
“(…) When I was younger, I thought, ‘I’m going to do this, I’m going to do that, it’s going to be a good learning experience, and then I’m going to try this’, thinking I had all the time in the world. Now, I’m like, ‘I didn’t learn anything from that one or that one, and this one would have been better spent in three months with my family.
