Paul Sorvino dies at 83 of ‘Goodfellas’

Actor Paul Sorvino, best known for his role as Paulie Cicero in “Goodfellas”, died this Monday (July 25) at the age of 83.

Sorvino’s death was reported by his wife, Dee Dee Benkie, on his Instagram account, where he reported that the actor died of natural causes. “I am completely devastated,” Benkie says in the publication. “The love of my life and the most wonderful man who ever lived are gone. I am heartbroken, ”she concluded.

Actress and daughter of Paul Sorvino, Mira Sorvino, also posted on her Twitter a statement in which she informed of her father’s death: “My father the great Paul Sorvino is dead. My heart is torn: a life of love, joy. and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I send you love among the stars, dad, as you ascend. “

Paul Sorvino began his acting career in the theater, participating in the Broadway show Bajour, in 1964. His film debut came in 1970, in “Where’s Poppa”. Sorvino has built a successful career, mostly with roles playing police officers or thugs in film and TV, up to playing gangster Paulie Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas”.

Another prominent role for Sorvino was that of New York Police Department Sergeant Phil Cerreta on the TV series “Law & Order”. He has also had supporting roles in such films as “A Touch of Class” (1973), “Reds” (1981), “Rocketeer” (1991), “Nixon” (1995) and “Romeo + Juliet” (1996).

Ray Liotta, star of “Those good guys” and co-star of Sorvino, also died in May at the age of 67.
