After a starring appearance in ‘What If…’ the zombies return to Marvel in their own series.
Zombies, the most representative monstrous creatures of the 21st century, have arrived at Marvel. We have already seen them in the undead chapter of ‘What If…’, and hopefully they will return to the series in season 2, but they will also have their own series. This is another animated project of the company, of which has been confirmed he will take care of himself Bryan Andrews who gave his first animated image to zombies in chapter 5 of ‘What if…’.
In that chapter, zombies invaded the Marvel Cinematic Universe before “Avengers: Endgame” and revealed themselves as a threat worse than Thanos. Rather, it is that Thanos himself could be in a zombie apocalypse. It all started at the moment Hank Pym returned from the Quantum World with the virus that would end up infecting almost all the characters in his parallel universe.
Hungry zombies that are going to return in the ‘Marvel Zombies’ series. This is all we know.
‘Marvel Zombies’: series premiere date
Marvel’s announcement about the MCU’s undead series came in November 2021. There it was said that the series would arrive “coming soon”, but no further details were given. How long can it take then? The only precedent in an animated series of the franchise is the ‘What if…’ series, for which two years passed between its announcement and the premiere. But keep in mind that in between the production of the series suffered from the problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and that its second season is being produced at a much higher speed.
Considering that the series is currently in pre-production and that Marvel announces it for “coming soon”, Most likely, ‘Marvel Zombies’ will arrive on Disney + in 2024closer to the beginning than the end.

‘Marvel Zombies’: synopsis of the series
There is hardly any official information about the plot of ‘Mavel Zombies’ or whether it will continue the events of the fifth episode of ‘What if…’ or remake a different story. Nevertheless, the logo with which the project has been announced arises from the comic series created by Robert Kirkman -the author of ‘The Walking Dead’- together with cartoonist Sean Phillips, ‘Marvel Zombies 2005’so it’s possible that the new series will adapt these comics.
In ‘Marvel Zombies 2005’ the virus emerges in the UCM with the arrival from another dimension of Sentry, a kind of Superman made in Marvel. From that moment on, the virus spread among the superheroes and reaches a point of no return when the zombies devour Estela Plataada. Alsosome of the zombies can absorb the abilities of superheroes, so fighting them is not easy. If the series were to take this path, we could find ourselves facing the classic fight of superheroes against supervillains, but this time with zombies on both sides.
According to official synopsis, we will see a new generation of heroes fighting this threat. Which is perhaps pointing to an early animated and parallel universe version of the Young Avengers:
Marvel Studios’ animated series reinvents the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes battling an ever-expanding zombie scourge.
The cast of ‘Marvel Zombies’: which characters will appear in the series?
If the series returns to the same zombie universe of ‘What If…’, we could meet the survivors of this episode: the alternative versions of Spider-Man (Huson Thames), Ant Man (Paul Rudd) and Black Panther (sadly without Chadwick Boseman this time). The alternate version of the Hulk (Mak Ruffalo) could even reappear if he survived his fight against a zombie Scarlet Witch.
Instead, If the series decides to adapt the comics, other characters such as the Fantastic 4 would take on a greater importance.which have a great importance in the origin of the zombie expansion and we could see magneta Wasp Already Black Panther. We could also see zombie versions of Spider-Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Hulk and Captain America.
At the moment, the only thing we know for sure (thanks to the Marvel panel at Comic Con) is that The zombies will appear, at least, from Scarlet Witch, Okoye, Captain Marvel, Abomination, Captain America, Ikaris and Hawkeye. That, and that among the heroes who will fight against them will be Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Chang-Chi and Red Guardian.
Oh, and the series will be rated R. Or what is the same, “not recommended for those under 18 years of age“. Don’t you feel like it?
‘Marvel Zombies’: director and screenwriter of the series
As we said at the beginning of the article, Bryan Andrews will sit in the director’s chair to re-create the zombie version of your favorite MCU heroes and villains. Together with him we will find showrunner a Zeeb Wells, who became famous for his work on the ‘Robot Chicken’ parody series. Both are executive producers of ‘Marvel Zombies’.
‘Marvel Zombies’: Trailer
With the series currently in pre-production, there is still a long way to go before the first trailer arrives. However, as soon as any new information arrives you will find it in this updated article.
