Marvel announced new movies at Comic-Con 2022, including “Thunderbolts,” “Fantastic Four,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
Something that fans have been quick to notice is that there will only be two Avengers movies in the next few years, which contrasts with previous eras where at least one movie of the world’s most powerful superheroes was released in each phase.
Why won’t MCU phase 5 have an Avengers movie?
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, confirmed at Comic-Con 2022 that phase 4, 5 and 6 are part of the Multiverse Saga and that only phase 6 will have two Avengers movies: ‘The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Secret Wars’ .
These movies will serve as the culmination of the saga, and all the movies that come after them will belong to a new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The reason MCU phase 5 will not have Avengers movies is very simple: Marvel producers and directors learned from their past experiences.
According to the most important Marvel executive, the Avengers films will now serve to mark the end of phases, although this does not mean that the MCU will run out of great crossovers, as already happened in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home ” ” or “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.
What will be the next phases of the MCU? The future of Marvel movies
Recent Marvel films have served to set the foundations of the multiverse, so phase 5 will focus on realizing the full potential of this concept.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Secret Invasion” will begin the fifth phase in the first quarter of 2023. In the film, Kang the conqueror will appear for the first time as the main villain of the epic, while in the series Disney fans will learn how the Skrull infiltrated to invade Earth.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, ‘Echo’, ‘Loki 2’, ‘The Marvels’, ‘Blade’, ‘Ironheart’, ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, ‘Captain America : New World Order’ and ‘ Thunderbolts’ are the productions confirmed so far in the fifth phase of Marvel Studios.
It should be noted that no new Doctor Strange and Spider-Man solo films have been announced, despite the fact that their recent productions have laid the groundwork for their story to continue.
Phase 6 of the MCU is still a mystery, all that is known so far is that it will begin in November 2024 with a new film version of the Fantastic Four and culminate in 2025 with “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and ” Avengers: Secret Wars’.
It is possible that in the gaps that exist in phase 6, Kevin Feige and his team have some series or movies planned that will help to better form the future team of Avengers, but this will not be known until the new era of the MCU is a bit more mature.
