2022 will be full of projects for Ethan Hawke. He started it by taking his first steps into the MCU with Moon Knight on Disney+ and recently directed The Last Movie Stars, an HBO Max docu-series about Paul Newman and his wife, Joanne Woodward.
Although the two projects seem to occupy opposite ends of the art and entertainment spectrum, the actor’s experience working on one inspired him to create the other. in the interview Insider, the actor revealed that he was initially hesitant before agreeing to play the Moon Knight. But after talking to his family, he decided to take the role, thinking that Paul Newman would do just that.
I remember sitting at dinner; I had just been offered Moon Knight and I was trying to decide if I was going to do it,” Hawke said. “And my youngest daughter, Indiana, who was 10 at the time, said, ‘Hey, Dad, what’s Paul going to do?’
Although Paul Newman has never directed a superhero film, according to Ethan Hawke, his subsequent roles suggest that he has embraced today’s franchise-driven entertainment world. At least if he had to.
“I guess he’s into blockbusters and superhero movies? No, I don’t think soHawk continues.He hated doing it Infernal tower. This was his idea of real betrayal. You see him in physical pain in this film.“
On that note, Hawke says he made the decision to be in Moon Knight for purely financial reasons. And he thinks Newman would do the same to support his family: “VSThe work remains– says Hawk.You still have to boil the pot.“
Still, Ethan Hawke seemed to enjoy the experience, as he ultimately praised the creative freedom that Marvel gave him as an actor. In his opinion, finding the right balance between art and business is what Paul Newman would do.
“I am an actor“, she said. “This is how I pay my kids medical bills, this is how I make ends meet. And it’s not my job to change the world and make it a perfect place. My job is to do a good job to the best of my ability. So we all decided I had to do it. And I’m glad I did.“
