• What they love: The first feature film by Frenchman Pierre Perifel, who worked for many years in Dreamworks Animation, Les Bad Guys is a real robbery. Full of action, twist, agitation and perversion, the film is aimed at all viewers from 6 years old.

Adapted from Aaron Blebe’s children’s book series, the feature film required a great deal of work from the director as the writer was not originally an illustrator. So its illustrations are very simple and it is impossible to adapt them.

So Pierre Perifel had to find his own style. He explains in AlloCiné microphone: “I set out to find an animated illustration style that was not classic and did not match what you normally see at Disney or Pixar or even at home in DreamWorks.

The inspiration, in terms of design, is quite French. Under the influence of Uderzo or Frankin. But there is a bit of Akira Toryama and Dragon Ball! My wish was to bring back a much more illustrative image.“

For the filmmaker, they are a representation of our fears. They grew up as the number one enemies of humans. And they have this “bad guys” label. And when they try to change, no one thinks they are sincere about what they are: scary animals.

A film about superstitions

There is a lot of talk in the film about superstitions and the labels we attach to people. The theme is important and allows the young viewer to understand the necessity of going beyond appearance. There is also an ecological message behind this film: These animals should not even be destroyed because they are evil. The connections between the film’s characters and the discovery of their true nature allow the viewer to understand sharks, wolves, spiders and snakes differently.
