With its 5 seasons, 438 episodes, thousands of funny sketches, unforgettable credits, 6-minute episodes and its 2 iconic characters, Boy, Girl was a part of everyday life in many homes before saying goodbye to the public. October 16, 2003. Aired every evening on France 2 since 1999, the series, adapted from the Quebec program of the same name, was a pioneer in the field of short comedy formats.

It attracted at least 5 to 6 million viewers, day after day, before going to its peak: the decision was made by Jean Dujardin and Alexandra Lamy to avoid public boredom and devote themselves to other projects. An audience that wanted to see Alex and Jean argue and then reconcile for a little while longer.

A look back at the end of a series that portrayed the concerns of an ordinary couple with humor and insight, and which, at the same time, left its mark on the world of television.

The last 4 episodes really mean the end of the series. While they are traveling on the island of St. Anne in the Seychelles, Jean suddenly asks Alex. After 8 years together, he proposes to her while the couple sunbathe on the beach. Alex is first surprised, then delighted and happily accepts: they kiss passionately in front of a group of delighted vacationers.

Then you have to go through the mother-in-law’s box: Jean brought Alex’s mother to the Seychelles to officially propose to her daughter. After some criticism, the stepmother asks Jin to explain his motives, which he tries to do. He wants to know if she wants children and how many: “I don’t know how much!– answers John. “6 or 7?“suggests the mother-in-law. “6 or 7 works fine for me!“He was deceived! Alex arrives: he has recorded his trick and forces Jean to listen to his words: it seems he is now bound to keep his word.

Then it’s time to make the wedding list: when Jean shows Alex hers, he’s outraged and reminds her that it’s not her birthday! Indeed, Jean wants a Gameboy, a ball game, and a complete James Bond collection. It’s Alex’s turn to show off her list:Iron, chopper and dryer, and it’s not personal?– shouts Zhan, who angrily leaves and leaves his enraged fiancée.

The episode begins with the lovers, who have to distance themselves before their wedding, both try to sneak into each other’s rooms, but are stopped by Alex’s mother and Jean’s friend Jean Mi. The latter is also at Jean’s bachelor party, which he is not happy about when a stripper arrives: indeed, it is Alex, ready to strip, who emerges from a large box before Jean carries him over his shoulder, far away. Friends who are a little too happy with their idea…

Jean then begins to get nervous to the point of having nightmares about the upcoming ceremony, imagining all kinds of women interfering with his wedding, protesting and claiming that he asked them to marry him earlier. Meanwhile, Alex highlights the wedding dress and veil. Jean arrives, very proud, to show off the shirt he is about to wear, which he has ironed himself. Alex gets angry because this is bringing trouble and yells at him to leave.

It’s D-Day and Jeanne is… running away from the ceremony first! Back home, he is about to say “yes” when the priest asks if he will marry Alexandra, love and respect her…and help with the shopping, the dishes, the cleaning, the cooking! A list of household chores and other daily needs follows: another Alex trick with the churchman’s complicity, leaving Jean speechless before she utters a disappointed “yes.”

The ceremony continues, but during the sermon the couple gets bored and starts talking to guests or drinking with friends. After exchanging wedding rings, Jean immediately loses the ring. Then the whole congregation begins to search for him until he finds him and begins to sing their famous “Life is good in the Seychelles, la la la la!”: A fun and definitely different marriage. Then the lovers leave the church, rejoice and drive off in their “newly married” carriage.

This is the last episode of the series. All friends, family, boys and girls gather together for their wedding banquet on the beach. As Ginny tries to figure out the seating plan, she realizes she forgot someone and asks Alex for help, who immediately finds the missing one:It’s me you forgot the poor hood!To which Zhan laughs:Yes, I forgot about you! Ah, this is nonsense!” This does not amuse Alex at all, who leaves annoyed.

Later, when the party is in full swing, she overhears her new husband stealing food from the banquet as if it wasn’t his. He reminds her that it’s all up to them. Then Jean realizes that he’s very used to stealing from other people’s weddings, and here he is, suddenly stingy, preventing Alexandra from having four little ones:Hey, don’t rush, it’s expensive, wait!“Jeans spat all over.

Later we find him in a buffet where he starts flirting with a waiter: he compliments her to finally tell her that despite her beauty, he doesn’t feel anything because he is in love with his wife! Alex appears and kisses her completely.

At the table, Jean-Mi makes a pleasant speech, which comforts Jean and Alex. But when Jean-Mi realizes they’ve been waiting for something bad, she decides to say too much about Jean, who thus begins to sing in order not to, leaving Alexandra furious.

Finally, the last scene sees the latter trying to escape the groomsmen because he doesn’t want to throw away the bouquet and wants to keep it while Jean dances on the floor, wild and completely uninterested.

It is in this simple picture that the adventure of Chou and Lulu ends. An adventure full of arguments and reconciliation, jokes, love and emotions that celebrated an entire generation.
