Brendan Fraser appears unrecognizable in the title role of “The Whale”

Actor Brendan Fraser, who became famous for playing the star of the franchise “The Mummy”, is unrecognizable in the first photo of his new job. The image of the rather fat actor was released this Tuesday (26/7) by the independent studio A24, celebrating the selection of three of his films for the Venice Film Festival.

Quote stars in “The Whale”, the new film by Darren Aronofsky (“Mother”), in which he plays a man with morbid obesity. His character is an English teacher who earned the nickname whale when he weighed 272 pounds. Suffering from food binges, he faces all kinds of difficulties, including his teenage daughter, played by Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”).

To play the role, the actor also had to get fat, although the performance has makeup effects. He was already appearing with the extra pounds in the HBO Max series “Doom Patrol”.

In addition to “The Whale”, A24 is also represented in the Golden Lion competition for “The Eternal Daugher”, by Joanna Hogg. Additionally, Ti West’s horror “Pearl” will have a special out-of-competition screening at the event.

The Venice Film Festival 2022 will take place from 31 August to 10 September.
