A new adaptation of the famous video game Resident Evil divides the series. While some have been won over by the action and liberties taken by showrunner Andrew Dabb, others have not been kind – see our dedicated review article. Despite all that, the show is a hit around the world, enough to warrant a second season. Pending confirmation from Netflix, here are three works with very different styles to re(discover) on the platform.
Seventeen years after Army of the Dead , Zack Snyder returns to the world of the living dead with a more muscular film aimed for the big show. A predicted blockbuster, Army of the Dead does not skimp on visual effects, spectacular action scenes and gives itself a silly appearance – the appearance of a zombie tiger.
The story follows a group of mercenaries, led by Scott Ward (Dave Bautista), who take advantage of the global chaos to pull off one of the biggest heists of all time in Las Vegas. This isn’t the first time a zombie movie has been shot in the Nevada desert. The third part of the film franchise Resident Evil, titled Extinction, has already chosen this setting for its story. A sequel, Planet of the Dead, still directed by Zack Snyder, is currently in the works.
A radical change in style. Along with Kingdom, the zombie attack is moved to the Joseon period in Korea. The story focuses on the fate of a young prince (Ji-hoon Joo) who faced the corruption of his kingdom and decided to investigate the origin of the deadly epidemic.
At the crossroads of genres, between medieval drama with magnificent costumes and counter-horror, the series stands out for its originality and scope. Even in horror kingdom Happy to get through the first two episodes, which take time to set the stage. Season 2 and a special 90-minute episode are also available on Netflix.
Zombies in the Z series version. True to his strange world, Robert Rodriguez directs with Planet Terror, a film that pays homage to the horrors of the seventies. Everything is there: the grain of the image of the time, the willfully visible special effects and a gallery of whimsical characters.
If the story adopts genre codes in a small town affected by an epidemic, its heroine is unique. Rose McGowan plays a dancer who replaces her amputated leg with an automaton. A cunning system for D survival. Robert Rodriguez’s Madness and Passion does just that terror of the planet An unusual object that is likely to appeal to fans of bloodshed.
