Like professional ethics has become a strategy to guarantee corporate sustainability

The ability to make the right choices can be developed with maturity and the possibility of experiences outside the classroom

The latent concern of companies to consolidate an organizational culture that enhances ethics has attracted and contributed to the conservation of professionals who create values for society. There is no wonder, the conformity programs, which work to preserve the integrity and reputation of a company, obtain greater importance in public and private environments.

“There is a growing understanding that non -ethical practices can damage the reputation, that is, the image of the brand and the institution, sustainability and long -term results”, says Renata Steffanoni, coordinator of the degree in Business Economics at the foundation of the Sociology and politics of San Paolo (FESPSP).

For Renata, ethics must be part of the company’s culture and present in the principles of institutional governance. “It is therefore essential that organizations clearly promote a culture of integrity and responsibility, as well as control and transparency mechanisms in the processes and decision -making process of managers and employees.”

Company conformity and governance programs can help with this mission. A survey conducted in 2023 by Alant, a leading platform for compliance, human resources and legal teams, has shown that what motivates companies to implement these initiatives is the concern to combat fraudulent practices, corruptions and money laundering.

The awareness of the prevention of sexual and moral harassment also appears as a growing topic within the conformity policies that provide for a safe and respectful work environment, according to the survey.

For Ricardo Castagna, coordinator of Belavista College’s right course, the growth of conformity has allowed him to stop being a “set of rules to avoid bad conduct, to have a training character, guiding good decisions”. “In the same way, the corporate government has become an essential pillar to ensure that companies operate ethically and transparently.”

Castagna underlines that today there is a market requirement for transparency, guided by regulations and necessity for companies to provide clear responses on their social and environmental impact. This strengthens the need for ESG programs (acronym in English by environmental, social and governance). Otherwise, difficulties of relationship with consumers, investors, governments and other involved may occur.

Within the ESG, they can exist from the actions to preserve the environment, such as giving priority to the use of clean energy or preserving the biodiversity of the region in which it is located, subject to internal initiatives of diversity and inclusion, up to creation of denunciation channels on cases of discrimination and harassment. For him, even companies with a pragmatic look at the results realize that investing in ethics and motivation of their professionals is an essential strategy to guarantee sustainability.

“The commitment to the ethical formation of employees is no longer an altruistic choice and has become the need to maintain solid and lasting companies,” adds Castagna.

The alignment of the purposes between employees and organizations in which they work also caused a contemporary movement in the world of work, in particular between the Z generation, from 16 to 30 years. André de Almeida, professor of philosophy at the Dom Cabral Foundation, says that this is an often unconscious necessity to give meaning to life. “In the process of adaptation to the institutional trajectory, the person can lose sensitivity and live a certain inhumanization. This opposite movement involves alignment, the adequacy of the purpose and the existential need to contribute to the community beyond professional life.”

What is public or private?

In a scenario in which interests can be widespread and technological tools, such as artificial intelligence, they are trained to simulate human functioning with growing precision, professional ethics is necessary again, this time to discern what is public and private. By 2020, the general data protection law (LGPD) has been promulgated to establish limits between these environments and balance transparency and the right to privacy by regulating the processing of personal data that in particular reach the organizations that deal with information sensitive to consumption and users, such as the information and health sectors information.

Anyone who moves particularly among the public and private sectors can pass through situations that require a decision -making process on the basis of a series of socio -emotional skills. “Ethical training must prepare the professional to recognize and consider these interests, ensuring that every decision is taken on the basis of a balanced judgment. This requires theoretical knowledge, a critical look at reality, a clear identification of the conflicts of interest and understanding of the Implications of the implications of each choice, “says Castagna.

Although many curricular grids include disciplines such as ethics or work, the theme transversally, this preparation will not only feel from the conventional graduation or post classes at the university, according to André de Almeida. For the philosophy teacher, who defines ethics how to “know how to make the right choices”, development is based on a personal process that provides maturity of the characters. “It is very different from the storage of rules or conduct and ethical ability must be exercised or works.”

The way of exercising it suggested by Almeida is through experiences and experiences. It was with the aim of providing this learning of the “development of the character” that the teacher took a class of students to speak with the relatives of the victims of the violation of the dam in Brumadinho (MG). This eight months after the 2019 break.

“We went to the dam, we experienced the drama, we felt people. We felt the relationship of a woman who worked in Vale, she got a job for her sister and was on vacation when everything happened. A part of the body that is was recognized by the DNA.

According to him, this type of experience arouses the sensitivity that allows you to put the relevant ethical aspects into practice, but it is necessary to know how to elaborate experience. “It is necessary to internalize this humanity so that it intact with the decision mechanism. This type of experience, well performed and adequately processed, will generate an ethical development for a full and more conscious conduct.”
