Daniella Perez’s murder was the last important case before changing the federal law

or Murder of the actress Daniella Perez, in December 1992, shocked Brazil for the cruelty and fame of the people involved. The case, which turns 30 in 2022, made news again thanks to the documentary miniseries ‘Brutal Pact: The Assassination of Daniella Perez’, produced by Hbo Max, who revealed the details of the investigation.

The mother of the actress and writer Gloria Perez He says he has even embraced his daughter’s body.

At that moment, an agent tries to remove her from the crime scene, but the deputy stops him with the justification that she was the mother.

“In these 32 years of forensic medicine, I have seen many family members invade the crime scene to see their relatives. It was something that happened and continues to happen today”, underlines Cristiane Faria Dias, an expert who has retired from the office of Director of the Division of the Forensic Center of the Institute of Criminalistics of San Paolo.

Conservation of a crime scene

But in the 90s it was easier to get closer to the corpse of a family member who died than it is today. This is because 30 years ago the code of criminal procedure was not rigorous on the need for the presence of a police authority on the crime scene, which made it difficult to conservation of that space.

The law was modified in March 1994, clarifying that a sheriff must be on the crime scene and preserve the scene for the work of the forensic expert.

“A profane can change the scene even without wanting to, for example by kicking a cartridge of bullets. The expert knows how to walk on the crime scene,” explains Dias.

The president of the union of the criminal experts of the State of Saint Paul (Sinpcresp), Eduardo Becker, recalls that the body on the crime scene can contain information on the attacker and the action of experts depends on delicate factors like this.

“A body can contain traces of the attacker’s DNA. Any contact from third parties can delay, or even make an impossible, a more detailed examination,” says Becker.

Thirty years of change

But it was not only the law that changed from the murder of Daniella Perez, the last crime of national repercussion without more stringent rules in the field of forensic procedures. experts listened to by Land They say that from 19942 to today there have been many transformations in criminal competence, especially in the field of technology.

“Blood analysis, ballistic, chemical reagents … all this has evolved a lot in the last 30 years”, underlines Adilson Pereira, who has worked as an expert for 34 years.

3D scanners and mapping software also helped digitize and simplify the forensic process. But the retirement expert Cristiane Dias believes that technology is useless if there is no training of professionals.

Eduardo Bekcer, president of the Union of Experts of San Paolo, reiterates: “The combination of technology, training and labor is decisive for the resolution of a case”.
