German left party BSW considers the contestation results of the national elections

The new German arrival, Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), said Monday to be able to legally contest the results of the national elections after losing the 5% barrier to Parliament.

The left populist BSW, created last year, won 4.97% in the elections on Sunday, with only 13,400 votes to join a country where about 60 million people can vote.

Some Germans abroad, including the ambassador in the United Kingdom, complained that they had not received the waste for their votes for time, a situation that the BSW leaders indicated a press conference on Monday.

“This raises the question of the legal validity of the result of the elections,” said Sahra Wagenknecht, homonymous leader of the BSW. “We will examine this and, of course, we will consult the lawyers.”

Wagenknecht said that it was not yet clear how many of the 230,000 Germans recorded to vote abroad could not vote.

However, even if none of them could vote and 5% of BSW support, it would represent only 11,500 more votes.

President Amira Mohamed Ali said that there were also evidence that during the count of the votes they could have been mistakes, but there were serious obstacles to contest an election in Germany.

“We are checking if there is any possibility of success,” he said. “If we come to you, we’ll take a step.”

Any party or person who wishes to contest the results of the vote should present an electoral complaint to the Bundestag Chamber within two months.

The Parliament Committee for the control of the elections would therefore analyze the complaint and decide on a story, a correction or a new election in the affected areas.

The BSW, created by an exodus of the party on the left left, behaved well in the eastern elections of Germany last year, reaching two regional governments.

However, the last minute increases from the left to the national elections to about 9% and the inability of BSW to reach Parliament will probably mean a period of conscientious examination within the new party.
